women who underwent a bilateral oophorectomy before menopause had close to a 2-fold increased risk for not only dementia but also parkinsonism, compared with those who did not have the surgery. The risk was also greater among those who had their ovaries removed and who stopped taking estrogen therapy before the age of 50 years. Women who underwent the procedure but who received estrogen-replacement therapy (ERT) until at least the age of 50 years returned to normal risk (free signup required to read)

Current use of E+P was associated with an increased risk for both ductal breast cancer (relative risk [RR], 1.75) and lobular breast cancer (RR, 2.12). However, current use of estrogen only increased the risk for lobular cancer (by 50% after 10 years or more of use) but did not increase the risk for ductal carcinoma, except in lean women (with a body mass index of <25 kg/m2).
