They tested botanicals including the alternative HRT black cohosh as well as echinacea, goldenseal, kava kava, milk thistle, saw palmetto, Synephrine, and valerian root. Levels were not to toxic standards, but things like cadmium, which is one of the metallic contaminants, is a known estrogen-mimic. Women who use black cohosh thinking they are avoiding estrogen may not be limiting their effects as much as they hope.
