So apparently people think of the Python documentation as a snore-fest. Compared to the Perl documentation, it apparently lacks wit and other entertaining qualities.

I come from a corporate IT background that involves lots of formal up-front documentation. I now have a startup project I want to work on, and my head is telling me to start writing documents, preparing detailed designs, etc. But my heart just wants to get in there and build the thing.

I'm looking for some open source wiki software to do internal documentation for software, hardware, procedures, etc.

As previously hinted Bruce, the Presentation Tool may now display presentations authored in ReStructuredText. I've had a chance to do some more work on it lately, and need to take a step back and think about what I'm trying to do :)

Congratulations for reading this far. Most people won’t, because there is nothing less flashy than the idea of writing things down. But I’m going to tell you why documentation is the major difference between a large successful business and a small struggling one.

Sphinx is a tool that makes it easy to create intelligent and beautiful DOCUMENTation for Python projects, written by Georg Brandl and licensed under the BSD license. It was originally created to translate the new Python DOCUMENTation, but has now been cleaned up in the hope that it will be useful to many other projects. Of course, this site is also created from reStructuredText sources using Sphinx!

In the last few days, I've tried to decouple Python's new documentation tool (called "Sphinx") from Python itself, so that other projects can use it too.

Wikir converts reStructuredText documents to various Wiki formats. Currently, Google Code Wiki Syntax is the target, but compatibility with Moin Moin Wiki Syntax and Trac Wiki Syntax is maintained when possible.
