One of the fun aspects of running any operating system is the ability to expand it—to add in new software over time to improve your workflow or just for entertainment value. Linux is blessed in this regard because tens of thousands of software titles are available to meet just about every need.

For a litany of legal reasons, ffmpeg does not come with all of the necessary things enabled for you to encode video for the iPod Video by default. Therefore, we need to build it from source and install some other libraries and programs, as well. Make sure you have multiverse and universe enabled.

This howto is mainly based on the LiveCDCustomizationHowTo, but some parts of the building process are specific for DapperDrake, so I decided to help those people who want to build a Live CD based on an official ISO.

I assume you already know how to open your Mini since there are many guides around about it. If you are looking for details look at this VIDEO.

Capture their minds and their hard drives will follow. Our challenge to you, quoted from last Friday: Modify a classic propaganda poster (or create a new one) for one side or the other in the pro- and anti-Microsoft conflict. And boy, did you. Our first pass through your submissions yielded about 30 finalists - by comparison, in a typical contest, 12-15 entries will make the first-round cut. Somehow, we managed to whittle it down to these 10 favorites. Just for Schiltz and grins, whaddya say we use the results of this contest to determine, once and for all, which lifestyle is superior, Apple or MS? Then we can all move our attention to more pressing issues, like whether the Toronto Blue Jays should wear gray or black caps.

A few days back, I had posted a mind map of Linux distributions on this blog. And I received a flood of suggestions, criticisms and ideas. And guess what ? I have included (almost) all the ideas and suggestions made and have seriously taken into consideration the criticisms as well. The end result is this updated mind map of GNU/Linux with even more Linux distributions included and some color coding thrown in as well. But the challenge was in making the mind map retain its clarity even after all these changes. At the same time, I also wanted to restrict the size of the resultant image. And I think I have succeeded to a certain extent in this endeavor.

Have you ever had the problem that you have set up the "perfect system", and now you want to back up this system before you make changes to it so that you can restore the original state if you changes are not satisfying? Or are you a system administrator in a large company where you have to maintain hundreds of Linux machines that run exactly the same software, but are sick of installing each machine manually? Or did you develop a Linux-based hardware appliance, and now you want to sell it in big numbers on different hardware platforms (i.e., different hard disks, etc., not different processor architectures!) without having to maintain an image for each platform? Or do you want to distribute this solution to your resellers overseas, so that you do not have to ship expensive hardware and your resellers can sell their own hardware*? This is where SystemImager comes into play!
