Many myths of stretching are put to rest in this post. Stretching is overated and this post explains why.

The key to muscle mass is a high enough volume of lifts to induce a bit of damage to the muscles. After the muscle is damaged it is important to rest that muscle enough for a full recovery. Ideally when that muscle is recovered, it will be slightly bigger. Over time this builds a larger muscle. The key to muscle tone is to do less volume of sets, but work out more frequently.

The most unproductive part of any diet or exercise plan that is aimed at burning body fat is the first two weeks. It is tough because people need to have a little faith during the toughest time of a weight loss plan. My way of thinking about a diet is this...don't plan on losing any body fat at all the first two weeks. If you do, just look at is as a bonus.

As a man, you were born with a muscle that drives women wild. When a woman sees a nice one she gasps in excitement. Women talk about this area of a man's body quite a bit…but most men don't realize it. It is almost taboo to talk about in fitness circles. No…it's not "that" muscle. Get your mind out of the gutter!

Well water retention isn't exactly the enemy of muscle tone, but it will tend to cover it up a bit. If you are pretty lean and only have a "4 pack" showing instead of a "6 pack" it is possible that you are a victim of water retention. A word of warning before we discuss this in more detail…don't use the excuse that you are "holding water" when you still have plenty of fat to burn. Water retention typically only matters once you get somewhat lean.

I have been guilty in the past of not giving steady state aerobics any respect. I am a big believer in high intensity interval training because it is extremely effective at burning body fat. I LOVE high intensity interval training. It is quick and gets results, but obviously steady state aerobics have great advantages as well. In this article I will talk about combining the two to maximize fat loss.

Somewhere along the way, milk and dairy got a bad reputation. Back in the 50's and even as late as the 80's milk and dairy was recommended as part of a healthy diet. The "trendy" thing right now is to point to studies and say how bad cow milk is for humans. There are several large groups who are anti-dairy almost to the point of obsession. I am going to point out a recent medical journal that examines the benefits of milk and dairy

Akon is the man right now…seriously! He is an incredibly talented musician…but beyond that, all of the hip young women that I hang out with love this guy. Many people claim that guys like this wouldn't be able to attract women if they weren't famous…with Akon this simply isn't the case. He is in great shape, has created a funky look, and has a very solid presence.

A big argument for eating 6 meals per day, is that the 6 small meals supposedly increases the metabolic rate. It is also argued that if you skip meals, you metabolism will shut down and your body will hoard fat. Well the British Journal of Nutrition has cited a study which proves this theory wrong.

Arthur Jones, the inventor of the Nautilus machines, passed away at the age of 80 on August 28, 2007. He was a radical thinker who completely went against the popular fitness ideas of his day. I consider him a mentor and a true pioneer when it came to fitness. Arthur first came out with his Nautilus machines in 1970.
