MP4Info is a library providing read (and, someday, write) access to MP4 tags. MP4Info is a rewrite in Ruby of the fine Perl module MP4::Info (http://search.cpan.org/~jhar/MP4-Info/) by Jonathan Harris.

England underwent the Blitz, but Japanese cities suffered firebomb raids from 1942. Since Japanese houses were made of wood and paper, civilian casualties aren’t measured by the thousands but by the hundreds of thousands. The actual impact of the later atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6 and 9 August 1945 may not have killed as many as in the fire-bombings, but the long term implications were horrific. Masao Ohki’s Hiroshima Symphony was his personal attempt to come to terms with what it meant.

As of Friday, Feb. 23rd, Arthur Magazine is on indefinite hiatus. We at Lime Publishing, the current publisher, had been working toward transitioning operations to a new publisher since the start of the year. A breakdown this past week in negotiations for the future of the magazine led to an unfortunate and perplexing announcement that "Arthur is Dead."

Young American Primitive (Greg Scanavino) was a prominent American producer/remixer, and one of the more popular acts to originate from the Bay Area's early 90's house scene. Released several 12"s and one full length CD on the San Fransisco based label ZoeMagik, and made several compilation appearances, culminating with the sample heavy "These Waves" being included on Sasha and Digweed's Northern Exposure mix album. Apparently impressed by his remixing skills (as displayed on the Geffen released Stone Roses' single "Begging You"), Scanavino was signed by Geffen in '96 and finished his second full length album in late '97. A single "Beyond" was slated for single release in November '97 (complete with video created by San Fransisco based multimedia studio Mind's Eye Media), and the album was slated for a January '98 release, however, neither saw the light of day, and YAP was apparently dropped from the label.

Mastermix dot org is an ongoing project. The goal is personal - to encode all my hip hop and soul mixtapes into MP3 format so that I can listen to them again easily using today's technology. These are mostly London pirate radio recordings from the mid 1980s - an exciting and innovative era in our radio history.

The opus that is The Rolling Stone Record Guide begins on page one in a place called Cream City, where the artist Aalon has created a “conceptual” discotheque. Aalon, we are told by narrator John Swenson, has imagined a “futurist urban landscape where Steven Baine’s Electric Train plays every Saturday night at the Jungle Desire, the earth’s hottest disco.” But Cream City, says Swenson, “doesn’t sustain interest,” so the Guide travels to Abba’s Sweden. Once there, we are told by critic Ken Tucker that the “mesmerizing synthesizers and permanently anxious lead singing of the women [are] pleasant and forgettable.”
