As the weather grows warmer, parks and beaches around Long Island will be screening plenty of films al fresco. Pack some snacks, bring a chair or blanket and then just wait for sundown. Who needs the multiplex? Outdoor movies offer an opportunity to watch your favorite movies under the stars. Check out the following list for outdoor cinema screenings in a park near you:

The city recreation department will sponsor an outdoor movie night this Saturday at Millville’s Riverfront Park, at the intersection of Buck and Main streets. The outdoor film, shown on a giant inflatable movie screen, will be fun for the whole family.

Last Thursday’s open air cinema screening on the Morristown Green was postponed due to inclement weather. The outdoor movie screening will be taking place -provided the weather holds out- this Thursday evening. Discretion is the better part of valor, especially when it comes to outdoor cinema in the monsoon capital of the western world.

The drive-in is fun, but every year Monroe County offers outdoor films that give you an excuse to get your friends together and catch a flick in the open, warm summer air. For free. Show up early to stake out prime real estate, and don’t forget the snacks (or the bug spray). After we posted the previous article about Sub Rosa’s attempts to obtain licensing for their guerrilla cinema, we did some more research to find out if there had been any developments on the matter. We are pleased to report that Sub Rosa Guerrilla Drive-In is now officially licensed and completely legal. They will continue to screen outdoor movies in various locations around the Seacoast region of New Hampshire, reclaiming public space and enjoying great cinema. The men who introduced the Sub Rosa Guerrilla Drive-in concept to the Garrison City last Friday night have decided to seek out licenses to show outdoor movies and are asking those interested to donate to their cause.

The adventures of a lion, zebra, giraffe and a hippo will come to life on a 65-foot-high outdoor movie screen when this summer’s “Screenings under the Stars” Free Outdoor Movies series kicks off with the animated hit Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008, PG) Thursday, July 9, at the Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. It will be followed by The Dark Knight (2008, PG-13) on Thursday, August 20.

Need family entertainment with some heavy bang for no buck? Or maybe just a little nostalgic heavy petting? Either way, this annual outdoor film series, sponsored by Sen. Diane J. Savino and Richmond County Savings Foundation, runs weekends throughout June on a massive inflatable screen in the parking lot of Richmond County Bank Ballpark at 75 Richmond Terr., St. George.
