The Powers’ Festival is sponsoring a series of free outdoor movies at various locations in Coweta County this summer — promoting the Labor Day destination and offering some free fun for local families. The first film in the Powers’ Coweta Classics series will be “Tobacco Road,” shown on the town square in Moreland on Saturday. The outdoor cinema screening is free and welcomes all residents and visitors alike. All of the films have some Coweta County tie.

At the Battlefield KOA Campground here, you can catch up on e-mail at your campsite, take in an outdoor movie on a 9-foot inflatable movie screen, lounge by the pool, play a round of mini golf or try your hand at Extreme Hunting, one of the arcade games in the game room.

The outdoor movie will be screened as part of a national programme of events to mark London 2012 Open Weekend. The comedy drama Gregory’s Girl will be shown free at the newly installed outdoor movie screen in Festival Square outside the Sheraton Hotel.

Work by students at California State University, Monterey Bay will be presented at the “Carmel Short Cinema” film and video screening at the Outdoor Forest Theater on July 19. The outdoor films are sponsored by the Forest Theater Guild and CSU Monterey Bay’s Department of Teledramatic Arts and Technology; the plan is to make the outdoor cinema screening an annual event.

Dabei verschwendete er auch einige wehmütige Gedanken daran, dass es dieses Jahr zu keiner Neuauflage des Open-Air-Kinos in der Badi kommen wird. «Wir wären jetzt gerade daran, die Flyer zu verteilen. Das Ganze mag mich», hält Bilali fest. Blick zurück: Im Sommer 2006 hatten Nedaim Bilali und ein Mitorganisator, der bereits seit Längerem fürs Amriswiler Open-Air-Kino verantwortlich zeichnete, zum ersten Mal in Romanshorn Kino an der freien Luft angeboten. Die ersten zwei Austragungen hatten auf der Seeparkwiese stattgefunden, die dritte dann im Seebad. Zu einem Besucheransturm war es nicht gekommen.
