Welcome! This is the website of the Glendix project, an attempt at porting ideas from the Plan 9 operating system to Linux. Our ultimate goal is to create a minimalist Linux distribution that contains a Plan 9 userspace, instead of the GNU software that is usually provided by most distributions. We are currently restricting our work to the x86 platform only.

Currently we have official packages optimized for the i686 and x86-64 architectures. We complement our official package sets with a community-operated package repository that grows in size and quality each and every day. Our strong community is diverse and helpful, and we pride ourselves on the range of skillsets and uses for Arch that stem from it. Please check out our forums and mailing lists to get your feet wet. Plan B is an operating system designed to work in distributed environments where the set of available resources is different at different points in time. Its 4th edition is implemented as a set of user programs to run on top of Plan 9 from Bell Labs.

This document attempts to list in a step-by-step fashion which network security settings should be changed after installing the server to achieve at least a minimal level of network security. For the sake of simplicity, it is assumed that we want to install a dedicated web server and use SSH for remote administration.

Linux versus Mac OS X on Intel Dual Core In early May I posted benchmarks comparing Linux and OS X on a MacBookpro running my R packages (I later added Windows XP benchmarks). In one of the original benchmarks, both Linux and Windows XP were more than twice as fast as OS X. And in a second (more representative) benchmark, Linux was about 20% faster. The benchmarks were posted on Digg and a variety of other high traffic Internet websites such as OSnews. This attention generated a lot of comments and suggestions.
