she collected a bunch of Flickr photos of people spinning on the bull’s balls in Milan. Notice how that fulltext query effectively retrieves a pile of images, taken by different people, of the same curious custom:

If you are passing through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, you should spin around on the testicles of the bull mosaic found in the centre. Legend has it that this will bring you good luck!

Now try this query, which uses the same terms but looks at tags instead of the free text (title, description) associated with the photos. It finds nothing.

In your talk with Philip Rosedale I was surprised that you never referred to your own Second Life experience ( http://jonudell.net/udell/2006-10-16-in-search-of-non-gratuitous-3d.html ) if only to reconcile the big benefits he attributed to Second Life meetings to your own experience.

Have you had sebsequent, more fruitful SL experiences?

Eric Rodenbeck is Stamen's founder and creative director. He is a 14-year veteran of the interactive design field, and has spent this time working to extend the boundaries of online media and live information visualization.

Eric led the interactive storytelling and data-driven narrative effort at Quokka Sports, illustrated and designed at Wired and Wired Books, and was a co-founder of the design collective Umwow. He has lectured and spoken at Yale University, the University of Southern California, numerous O'Reilly technology conferences, Esther Dyson's PC Forum, and South by Southwest, among others. Eric studied architecture at Cooper Union in New York City and received a B.A. in the History and Philosophy of Technology from The New School for Social Research. He sits on the Board of Directors of the Kenneth Rainin Foundation.
