  • Brian Berry is the guy.
  • At about minute 40 minutes in there's a worthwhile observation about running grass roots organizations. Brian says he's talked to other people running grass roots organizations and they all agree that the biggest problem is finding committed people to work on them. Lots of people want to come and talk to you but that's not what you need.
  • Brian sees the future of learning activities as Javascript and HTML 5.
  • He would like to see a JS/HTML 5 learning activity framework
  • He had not heard of the Lively Kernel
  • Nepal's education system, partly as a result of limited resources, is based on rote and passing exams
  • As a result, the learning activities must be based on the curriculum.

"An extensive directory of non-profit and volunteering resources and organizations. This funky site allows you to post jobs, volunteer opportunities, internships, events, programs, resources, and campaigns. Although it’s more of a social networking site, it does encourage people to promote good in the world,"

They had a poster at the pizza place on the Ellsworth triangle, 19 December 2008. In the process of this effort we seek to take the “who made that!?” and “how much does it cost!?” out of our creative endeavors, by anonomously functioning as word-to-image translators of the information we convey. We build, and disseminate these visual tools with the hope that they will self-replicate, and take on life of their own. The Hivestory… The work of the Beehive Collective has three major facets: the Hive is appreciated internationally for its educational graphics campaigns, at a regional level for it’s stone mosaic murals and apprentice program, and locally for it’s dedication to the revitalization of the old Machias Valley Grange Hall, a landmark building in our small, rural town. The Hive has been going and growing since 2000 , at full speed!

"The Light Rail Now Project is a charitable educational enterprise designed to support efforts both within North America and worldwide to develop and improve light rail transit (LRT) and other rail transit and mass transportation systems. This website – Light Rail Now! – is intended to provide informational and educational material helpful in bolstering these objectives and the general educational and outreach activities of the Light Rail Now Project. The Light Rail Now Project believes that presenting facts, reliable information, and well-supported arguments is the way to counteract the avalanche of misinformation and misconception about mass transit, rail transit in general, and LRT, and particularly to enable planners, decisionmakers, and the public to make truly informed decisions in regard to LRT as an amazingly versatile, attractive, and cost-effective mode of transportation technology. The Light Rail Now Project and this website are sponsored by the Texas Association for Public Transportation in collaboration with Light Rail Progress. (The website originated as a Web vehicle to support efforts to promote an LRT system for Austin, Texas in 2000, and was the official website of Light Rail Now and Walkable Neighborhoods.)"

"QBP is the shop behind America’s bicycle shops. Serving more than 5,000 independent retailers across the country, we are the industry’s go-to source for bicycle parts, accessories and apparel. Always expanding our offerings and innovating new programs and services, QBP helps dealers save money, build profits and keep their customers happy. Committed to growing the industry through advocacy and environmental engagement, QBP helps secure federal funds for bike and pedestrian-related projects that benefit every state in the union. Our employees regularly devote time, money and sweat to local trail-building organizations. And QBP’s modern distribution center uses state-of-the-art design and materials to save energy and significantly reduce our impact on the environment. While much has changed since we opened our doors more than 25 years ago, QBP still follows a simple formula for success. We listen to our customers, offer the best possible service, and add value whenever possible. Is Your Commute Breaking the Bank? Not only is bike commuting good for your body, it’s good for your bankbook, too. That’s because driving a car to work costs plenty. Apart from the environmental price, you part with cold hard cash every time you turn the ignition. How much? Check out the handy calculator below to see how much you’re shelling out to ride the bumper-to-bumper express. By contrast, you’ll learn how biking to work only two days a week can make your wallet pleasingly plump. Estimated Cost of Driving"

"From The New Yorker In this cogent jeremiad, which is certain to be controversial, Michaels diagnoses America's love of diversity as one of our greatest problems. Not only does it reinforce ideas of racial essentialism that it claims to repudiate; it obscures the crevasse between rich and poor. Michaels, a scholar of American literature, suggests that the growth of economic inequality over the past few decades is the result of a deeply ingrained and unchallenged class structure. Scrutinizing current events and religion, he argues that our fixation with the "phantasm" of race promotes identity over ideology, and he rejects the idea that meritocracy prevails in America's elite universities. A believer in the power of progressive politics, he calls for a debate in which class, rather than identity, would be at the fore.
