Determination of atmospheric nitrogen input to Lake Greenwood, South Carolina

Lake Greenwood experiences summertime algal blooms, upsetting the natural ecosystem. The unique nitrogen demands of the dominant algae (Pithophora oedogonia) makes this the main species contributing to the algal blooms. The predominant form of the N deposition flux is in ammonium (NH4) form at an annual magnitude of 0.9 to 17.4 kg N/ha.

User-payment, decentralization and health service utilization in Zambia

Results of a study show a dramatic decrease of visits of hospitals and health centers of the general population. It is imminant that user payment in poor populations leads to dramatic declines in use of health services. Decentralization with local control of costs and resources could, however, be an alternative to traditional disease-prevention programmes.

Trypanosoma vivax is a disease causing Nagana, or Animal African Trypanosomiasis in animals. This disease had a significant effect on African history by keeping horses and camels out of much of Africa.
