Se, come credo, anche i santi alla fine della vita nutrono rimpianti, so per certo che don Giacomo Alberione, ora beato, fondatore della Società San Paolo, Congregazione religiosa che si dedica ai mezzi moderni di comunicazione e quindi anche al cinema, alla sera della vita ha avuto il rammarico di non aver realizzato un film su Paolo, l’apostolo che ha ispirato la sua grande opera. Negli scaffali della Sampaolofilm, con le numerose sceneggiature dei film e documentari biblici o religiosi portati a compimento negli anni ’39-’80, vi sono almeno quattro copioni di autori diversi, mai realizzati, che riguardano la vita di san Paolo. Risalta una sceneggiatura, brossurata con copertina marrone, dal titolo San Paolo di Pier Paolo Pasolini e con il sottotitolo “Appunti per un direttore di produzione”.
