Highly portable - Not only does FreeOTFE offer "portable mode", eliminating the need for it to be installed before use, it also offers FreeOTFE Explorer - a system which allows FreeOTFE volumes to be accessed not only without installing any software, but also on PCs where no administrator rights are available. This makes it ideal for use (for example) with USB flash drives, and when visiting Internet Cafés (AKA Cybercafés), where PCs are available for use, but only as a "standard" user.

The original unofficial DVD Decrypter mirror since June 7th, 2005. As you may know, DVDDecrypter.com was shut down and development on it halted. KeePassX is an application for people with extremly high demands on secure personal data management. It has a light interface, is cross platform and published under the terms of the GNU General Public License. KeePassX saves many different information e.g. user names, passwords, urls, attachmets and comments in one single database.

Portable software to import, export, delete, rename, view, edit and execute files in TrueCrypt containers

The purpose of this software is to overcome this limitation of TrueCrypt by providing an interface, similar to compression and decompression software, where directories and files can be imported and exported easily from TrueCrypt containers. There are some debates on the merits of such software. Those in favor argue that it will make TrueCrypt truly portable. Those against it argue that it is a security breach to extract files stored in TrueCrypt containers to computers where you do not have control. I do not wish to partake in such debates. This software arises because of my own needs. I wish to transport my documents (which are not very confidential) in my thumbdrive but I do not wish others to be able to look at my documents if I accidentally lose my thumbdrive. Thus I need to encrypt my files and a good candidate to encrypt them is TrueCrypt. However, as I may need to extract the files onto other computers (which most likely will not be logged in as administrator), I will need a software which allows me to extract TrueCrypt files without requiring administrative privileges. A search on the net shows that it is possible to create such software and a proof-of-concept commandline software, OTFExplorer has been created by Josh Harris. However, the author did not wish to continue the project to build a GUI interface. This software picks up where Josh Harris left off.

Last weekend I spent a bit of time setting it so that all my data is securely encrypted using the excellent open source software called TrueCrypt.

Free open-source disk encryption software for Windows Vista/XP , Mac OS X, and Linux Main Features: * Creates a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mounts it as a real disk. * Encrypts an entire hard disk partition or a storage device such as USB flash drive. * Encryption is automatic, real-time (on-the-fly) and transparent. * Provides two levels of plausible deniability, in case an adversary forces you to reveal the password: 1) Hidden volume (steganography – more information may be found here). 2) No TrueCrypt volume can be identified (volumes cannot be distinguished from random data). * Encryption algorithms: AES-256, Serpent, and Twofish.
