The instantreality-framework is a high-performance Mixed Reality (MR) system, which combines various components to provide a single and consistent interface for AR/VR developers. Those components have been developed at the Fraunhofer IGD and ZGDV in close cooperation with the industry.

Photo tourism is a system for browsing large collections of photographs in 3D. Our approach takes as input large collections of images from either personal photo collections or Internet photo sharing sites (a), and automatically computes each photo's viewpoint and a sparse 3D model of the scene (b). Our photo explorer interface enables the viewer to interactively move about the 3D space by seamlessly transitioning between photographs, based on user control (c).

With Recent advances in computational power, physical modelling has become increasingly viable for real time musical synthesis. Cymatic is a new computer based musical instrument, which utilises the mass-interaction scheme of physical modelling to synthesise modular musical instruments in real time. Real time control of Cymatic is provided via haptic interfaces, which allow the user to experience the ‘physicality’ of the instrument with the sense of touch. Physical contours and time varying forces on the instrument can be ‘felt’ by the user and vibrotactile sensations simulate the vibrations of the resonating instrument.

Xdmx is proxy X server that provides multi-head support for multiple displays attached to different machines (each of which is running a typical X server). When Xinerama is used with Xdmx, the multiple displays on multiple machines are presented to the user as a single unified screen.

Virtual Choreographer (VirChor) is an open source real time 3D engine that relies on an XML-based definition of 3D scenes with graphic and sonic components. VirChor is well-documented and offers facilities such as high dimension particle systems through GPGPU, MPEG4 facial and skeletal character animation, vertex and pixel shader support, audio source localization, and collision detection. VirChor runs on Windows, Mac OS/X, and Linux and uses OpenGL for interactive rendering, and POVray or Renderman for off-line rendering. Sound computation is designed for communication through OSC protocole with PureData or Max/MSP.
