OpenSCAD is a software for creating solid 3D CAD objects. It is free software and available for Linux/UNIX, MS Windows and Apples OS X. Unlike most free software for creating 3D models (such as the famous application Blender) it does not focus on the artistic aspects of 3D modelling but instead on the CAD aspects. Thus it might be the application you are looking for when you are planning to create 3D models of machine parts but pretty sure is not what you are looking for when you are more interested in creating computer-animated movies. OpenSCAD is not an interactive modeller. Instead it is something like a 3D-compiler that reads in a script file that describes the object and renders the 3D model from this script file (see examples below). This gives you (the designer) full control over the modelling process and enables you to easily change any step in the modelling process or make designes that are defined by configurable parameters.

This application is a webcam image processing library on top of OpenCV intended to generate events from user's head, hand and body movements. This library is also intended to track objects so that augmented reality can be made. In order to enhance human computer interaction, the application is going to use a single webcam, without the needs to use FTIR or Diffused Illumination techniques. Besides tracking positions, this library will also be able to provide higher level events and gestures like get 3d user position, and open hand gestures. Collision with virtual objects is also considered in augmented reality.

Sparse Virtual Texturing is an approach to simulating very large textures using much less texture memory than they'd require in full by downloading only the data that is needed, and using a pixel shader to map from the virtual large texture to the actual physical texture. The technique could be used for very large textures, or simply for large quantities of smaller textures (by packing them into the large texture, or by using multiple page tables). It was mostly inspired by John Carmack's descriptions of MegaTexturing in several public and private forums and emails. It may not be exactly the same as MegaTexture, but it's probably close.

Arauna is a real-time ray tracer developed for game development. Being a real-time ray tracer, it is experimental, and does not yet deliver the performance needed to produce graphics of the same quality as modern games do using a GPU. However, in its class, it is one of the fastest (probably the fastest) renderer. Two games have been developed already using Arauna, both by students of the IGAD program of the NHTV University of Applied Sciences (Breda, The Netherlands).

A technique and philosophy for controlling computer animation is discussed. Using the Actor/Scriptor Animation System (ASAS) a sequence is described by the animator as a formal written SCRIPT, which is in fact a program in an animation/graphic language. Getting the desired animation is then equivalent to "debugging" the script. Typical images manipulated with ASAS are synthetic, 3D perspective, color, shaded images. However, the animation control techniques are independent of the underlying software and hardware of the display system, so apply to other types (still, B&W, 2D, line drawing ...)

This article proposes a simple and efficient multithreading solution to accelerate rendering for a number of animated 3D models. The solution enhances the performance of skeletal animation by using a thread pool, double buffering, and intermittent updates. This set of techniques performs CPU-based skeletal animation at performance levels that are competitive with GPU-based animation implementations, and it serves as a flexible alternative on multi-core systems.

This document describes a C library implementation of a new polygon clipping algorithm. The techniques used are descended from Vatti's polygon clipping method. Subject and clip polygons may be convex or concave, self-intersecting, contain holes, or be comprised of several disjoint contours. It extends the Vatti algorithm to allow horizontal edges in the source polygons, and to handle coincident edges in a robust manner. Four types of clipping operation are supported: intersection, exclusive-or, union or difference of subject and clip polygons. The output may take the form of polygon outlines or tristrips.

Shoebot is a pure Python graphics robot: It takes a Python script as input, which describes a drawing process, and outputs a graphic in a common open standard format (SVG, PDF, PostScript, or PNG). It has a simple text editor GUI, and scripts can describe their own GUIs for controlling variables interactively. Being pure Python, it can also be used as a Python module, a plugin for Python-scriptable tools such as Inkscape, and run from the command line. It was directly inspired by DrawBot and Shoes. Thus, "Shoebot."

Color correction is part of almost all print and film imaging applications. Color correction can be used to move color images from one color space to another (say, from Adobe RGB to sRGB); to stylize images (creating illusions such as faded film, cross-processing, or other stylistic variations); to combine art elements from different sources (such as matching color palettes between different video sources, or models made by different artists); or to give broad coherence and mood to entire parts of a game or scene without changing the underlying models and textures.

The Bean Machine is an experimental project in visual programming and composition in Java. It's at a very early stage, but still fun to play with. You can build up a composition by creating various types of nodes and joining up their inputs and outputs. It's designed to be completely extensible and it's easy to create new types of nodes. There's no need to be limited to visual compositions either, it's easy to create nodes which manipulate text, play sounds or read input devices.

VIGRA stands for "Vision with Generic Algorithms". It's a novel computer vision library that puts its main emphasize on customizable algorithms and data structures. By using template techniques similar to those in the C++ Standard Template Library, you can easily adapt any VIGRA component to the needs of your application, without thereby giving up execution speed.

Jenn is a toy for playing with various quotients of Cayley graphs of finite Coxeter groups on four generators. Jenn builds the graphs using the Todd-Coxeter algorithm, embeds them into the 3-sphere, and stereographically projects them onto euclidean 3-space. (The models really live in the hypersphere so they looked curved in our flat space.) Jenn has some basic motion models governing the six degrees of freedom of rotation of the hypersphere.

Current rasterization based renderers utilize one of two main techniques for lighting, forward rendering and deferred rendering. However, both of these techniques have disadvantages. Forward rendering does not scale well with complex lighting scenes and standard deferred rendering has high memory usage and trouble with transparency and MSAA. This research project aims to explore a middle ground between these two lighting techniques with the aim of keeping the key advantages of both.
