This guide is intended for programmers who are new to Scheme, new to PLT Scheme, or new to some part of PLT Scheme. It assumes programming experience, so if you are new to programming, consider instead reading How to Design Programs.

BERT and BERT-RPC are an attempt to specify a flexible binary serialization and RPC protocol that are compatible with the philosophies of dynamic languages such as Ruby, Python, PERL, JavaScript, Erlang, Lua, etc. BERT aims to be as simple as possible while maintaining support for the advanced data types we have come to know and love. BERT-RPC is designed to work seamlessly within a dynamic/agile development workflow. The BERT-RPC philosophy is to eliminate extraneous type checking, IDL specification, and code generation. This frees the developer to actually get things done.

Underscore is a utility-belt library for JavaScript that provides a lot of the functional programming support that you would expect in Prototype.js (or Ruby), but without extending any of the built-in JavaScript objects. It's the tie to go along with jQuery's tux.

This project provides a converter written in Python that closely matches the behaviour of the original Perl-implemented Markdown.pl. There is another Python markdown.py (see link at right), but markdown2.py is faster (see PerformanceNotes) and, to my knowledge, more correct (see TestingNotes).

nedmalloc is a VERY fast, VERY scalable, multithreaded memory allocator with little memory fragmentation. It is faster in real world code than Hoard, faster than tcmalloc, faster than ptmalloc2 and it scales with extra processing cores better than Hoard, better than tcmalloc and better than ptmalloc2 or ptmalloc3.

The State Threads Library is a small application library which provides a foundation for writing fast and highly scalable Internet applications (such as web servers, proxy servers, mail transfer agents, and so on, really any network-data-driven application) on UNIX-like platforms. It combines the simplicity of the multithreaded programming paradigm, in which one thread supports each simultaneous connection, with the performance and scalability of an event-driven state machine architecture. In other words, this library offers a threading API for structuring an Internet application as a state machine.
