The presentation showed that in the Philippines, a total of 70,000 Megawatt can be amassed by taping on the power of the wind. The speaker, according to my colleague, then said that sadly this could not be made possible because of land area restrictions.

This week is turning into a who’s-who week for me. I received an email from my good friend, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. He is of course promoting, Al Gore’s upcoming blockbuster, An Incovenient Truth.

Today I wanted to finding something funny so I goggled Will Ferrell, that zany guy from Saturday Night Live. And I was not disappointed. Transbuddha.com features Will Ferrell as US President George W. Bush talking about global warming.

If you remember sometime back, President George W. Bush said that agreeing with the stipulations of the Kyoto Protocol would cause “serious harm to the US economy”. Why? Its because William Nordhaus and Joseph Boyer of Yale University gave an estimate of the cost of compliance in 2000 amounting to a figure of $325 billion for the United States. This number was used by Kyoto-detractors in the Bush camp, saying that this large amount of money is not justifiable with respect to the “benefits” of compliance.

Let me further add that I found articles like this helpful, because it really puts us in proper perspective and reminds us that we must always look (continuously) for better ways of doing things. Without further ado, here is the article, the arguments made and my reactions to them.

I have meaning to write this article because people do pass milestones in their lives and it’s sometimes good to stop, take a breather, look back at what they have done, and just thinks about what to do in the future. I have reached that point today. So pardon my indulgence and allow me to share with you, my plans and intentions.

Yes oil will change the world. Oil will affect the balance of world power. And because you and I, ordinary citizens affected by these decisions and having to contend with issues such as climate change, are in the middle of this, we must use what little power we can. I personally think we can try and make alternative fuels work. I think it’s the only way. So stop using your SUVs and start using smart cars. Stop consuming all the electricity and try to save. Everything counts.

Although I have not confirmed it, news report indicates Chinese plans to use ancient rainforest timbers from Indonesia for Olympic construction. This move, if it is indeed true, will increase China’s role in destroying what is left of Southeast Asia’s rainforest.

Have you ever seen the reality show The Apprentice? It is basically that billionaire Donald Trump rolling out commands and tasks for a handful of hopeful business-types and slowly removing one hopeful after another until a final candidate is chosen. In Donald Trump’s famous slur and with that funky hair do, he barks “You’re Fired” to signal the end of a candidate’s chance at becoming the Apprentice.
