Rather a predictable storyline.

Microsoft Silverlight rated ... bad.

I thought it is an honest account and somewhat of a curious thing that he wanted announcing and good navigations - old tv stuff, rather than being on the wild to find interesting stuff by himself. Some people say that freedom from mouthfeeding and lowest common denominator is good, and that is what the Net offers us. But what we need is at least some "web 2.0" or "community" features so that users collectively can navigate themselves and enjoy watching the show together. Need an announcer? Perhaps there are some among the viewers.

Now, suppose that the camcording is not harmful but helpful. And suppose that the file sharing is not clearly harmful. These two assumptions are probably not that outrageous.

And now, suppose that MPAA is smart enough to be aware of these facts, or possibilities. What is the best strategy for MPAA? In my view, they would of course want to have more control over flow of contents, so that they can monetize it better. And in the meantime, camcording and file sharing would be used as the reasons for their need for tighter control.

There might even be an incentive for MPAA to let those "insiders" to leak movies for file sharing, because that will actually strengthen their claim that their business is damaged tremendously while it is not clear at all if there is actually a damage.

Is this too much speculation?

Two big implications: 1) Nielsen might face a significant challenge. 2) Cable, with their set-top box might end up with being a very attractive venue for advertisers, as much as Google's "measurable" advertisement deals are. Who think that Google AdWords fare better than cable ads here? For one thing, Google's algorithm has often been criticized for its lack of transparency. Their over-automated customer service system is also may or may not be working well. Is cable worse than that? I don't think so.
