A good review of recent and not-so-recent remarks on this issue by some notables; I do agree that monopoly rent is hard to maintain in face of the change in the balance of power between mass media and individual creators in creating and disseminating content online.
Many of the comments to this article are against any kind of bailout. Interesting. Where do they come from? Just spontaneous reaction from the readership?

I have the same doubt: newspaper industry may not be the same scale five years from now. The future might be on the web, but it is perhaps not as bright a future as one might hope.
