In Japan, the latest fad is all about presentation, the art of making character lunches. It is called “Kyaraben” (キャラクター弁当), or “Charaben”, and goes beyond simply making the meal look appetizing.
“I touch the cold body again and I wonder where I should start. I start to cut off all the meat before amputating the limbs. While I cut her calf I suddenly want to taste it. I see the beautiful red meat beneath the fat. I grasp her knee and her ankle, and tear it with my teeth. It is tender. I slowly chew and savor it.”
Underwater rock formations resembling a pyramid found off Yonaguni Jima Island in the Ryukyu Islands of Japan may represent the Asian version of Atlantis according to Masaaki Kimura, a marine geologist at the University of the Ryukyus in Japan.
“She was dozing off most of the day recently but when she was awake she used to enjoy singing children’s songs. Once she started singing she wouldn’t stop until we all got tired and had to stop her,” she said.
The Yokohama city education board announced that Ekoda Elementary School would cancel lunch and classes on two days in January as higher oil prices led to food cost increases. Meal costs for the school up to October already surpassed initial estimates by nearly 10%.
