Shopping bag crocheted from fine string for options (a) and (b), the 1/2 hook mentioned is between a C/2 and a D/3 hook (3.0mm). For option (c), the size 00 hook is 3.5mm, or about E/4. The "fine string" mentioned is probably about a #5 crochet thread. Warning: I don't crochet (yet), so I don't know what I'm talking about.
