Foremost is a console program to recover files based on their headers, footers, and internal data structures. This process is commonly referred to as data carving. Foremost can work on image files, such as those generated by dd, Safeback, Encase, etc, or directly on a drive. The headers and footers can be specified by a configuration file or you can use command line switches to specify built-in file types. These built-in types look at the data structures of a given file format allowing for a more reliable and faster recovery.

http://www.sleuthkit.org/

sleuthkit.org is the official web site for The Sleuth Kit and Autopsy Browser. Both are open source digital investigation tools (a.k.a. digital forensic tools) that run on Windows and Unix systems (such as Linux, OS X, Cygwin, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and Solaris). They can be used to analyze NTFS, FAT, Ext2, Ext3, UFS1, and UFS2 file systems and several volume system types.

The Sleuth Kit (TSK) is a C library and a collection of command line tools (based on code from The Coroner's Toolkit (TCT)). Autopsy is a graphical interface to TSK

http://nucular.sourceforge.net/

Nucular is a system for creating full text indices for fielded data. It can be accessed via a Python API or via a suite of command line interfaces.

Nucular archives fielded documents and retrieves them based on field value, field prefix, field word prefix, or full text word prefix, word proximity or combinations of these. Nucular also includes features for determining values related to a query often called query facets.

SECCURE Elliptic Curve Crypto Utility for Reliable Encryption

http://point-at-infinity.org/seccure/

The seccure toolset implements a selection of asymmetric algorithms based on elliptic curve cryptography (ECC). In particular it offers public key encryption / decryption, signature generation / verification and key establishment.

ECC schemes offer a much better key size to security ratio than classical systems (RSA, DSA). Keys are short enough to make direct specification of keys on the command line possible (sometimes this is more convenient than the management of PGP-like key rings). seccure builds on this feature and therefore is the tool of choice whenever lightweight asymmetric cryptography -- independent of key servers, revocation certificates, the Web of Trust or even configuration files -- is required.

http://tinkerhouse.net/shoebot/

Shoebot is a pure Python graphics robot: It takes a Python script as input, which describes a drawing process, and outputs a graphic in a common open standard format (SVG, PDF, PostScript, or PNG). It has a simple text editor GUI, and scripts can describe their own GUIs for controlling variables interactively. Being pure Python, it can also be used as a Python module, a plugin for Python-scriptable tools such as Inkscape, and run from the command line. It was directly inspired by DrawBot and Shoes. Thus, "Shoebot."

A lot of programs, systems, and tools need some way to communicate. Func provides a two-way authenticated system for generically doing these sort of things. You can build your own applications on top of it, and easily expand func by adding in additional modules, whether you want these to work through the func command line or by means of some other application. If you just want to use the func command line, that's great. If you want to build apps on the func tools, that's great too. If this sounds generically vague, it's only because it really is that expandable.

ImLib3D is an open source C++ library for 3D (volumetric) image processing. Focus has been put on simplicity for the developer. It contains most basic image processing algorithms, and some more sophisticated ones. It comes with an optional viewer that features multiplanar views, animations, vector field views and 3D (OpenGL) multiplanar. All image processing operators can be interactively called from the viewer as well as from the UNIX command-line.
