Justifiably famed for its tranquil setting and beauty, the Laem Set Inn was built in 1982 at a time when much of the island was undiscovered and the natural way of life was only just on the cusp of change. Despite all the development around it this resort has remained completely unspoilt, and is synonymous with taking a break from the bustle of the rest of Koh Samui. Life goes on at a gentler pace, just as it did years ago. community magazine went to have a look, and found an idyll on the water. Just the drive to Laem Set is something special. Once you turn off the ring road at Hua Tha-non, you soon find that you are in a different world, namely, the quieter south of the is-land. There is a lot less traffic and soon you turn onto an even less fre-quented road that winds through palm plantations and heads towards one of the most unforgettable beaches on the island. Already you have the feeling that this is going to be a special place, one that is well worth the extra kilometres.
