Wenn Sie bereits ein Motiv mit hohem Kontrastumfang fotografiert haben, wissen Sie, dass die Wahl der richtigen Belichtung trotzdem nicht unbedingt ausgebrannte Lichter und zugelaufene Schatten im Foto vermeidet. Der Kontrastumfang einer Szene ist oft so groß, dass die Kamera ihn nicht in einer einzigen Aufnahme aufzeichnen kann.
