Mark Rothko's early childhood was plagued with fear, as he witnessed the violence brought down upon Jews by the Cossacks attempting to stifle revolutionary uprisings. As an artist, the evolvement of Rothko's paintings was always an attempt to express the tragedy of the human condition. The article includes photographs of his work and a video.
